"Together in God's grace, may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly"

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Learning in EYFS

At Loughborough Church of England Primary School, our EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) team is passionate about providing a joyful, safe, and stimulating environment where children can explore their interests, build meaningful relationships, and begin their individual learning journeys.

Engaging and Inspiring Learning

We plan exciting, hands-on activities that spark curiosity and help children discover the world around them. Through a balance of teacher-led guidance and pupil-initiated learning, children are encouraged to enquire, explore, and reflect, both indoors and in our outdoor learning areas.

Developing Social Skills and Emotional Growth

We value each child’s ideas and opinions, and we teach them to listen to and consider others’ perspectives. Children are given opportunities to negotiate, problem-solve, and communicate with their peers, helping them develop the confidence and skills to handle real-life situations thoughtfully and calmly.

Fostering a Love of Reading

In our EYFS provision, we love sharing rhymes, stories, and books. Reading together opens exciting new worlds, introduces diverse characters, and enriches children’s vocabulary. Our dedicated staff help children develop a lifelong love of reading, incorporating storytelling into both play and learning to inspire curiosity and imagination.

Celebrating Individuality and Achievement

Every child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, and personality. We celebrate individuality and aim to help each child grow into a happy, independent, and motivated learner. By the time they leave our EYFS provision, children are confident, capable of tackling challenges, forming strong relationships, and ready for the next stage of their learning journey.

EYFS at Loughborough C of E Primary School:

  • Teachers have high expectations of children in the early years and learning opportunities are well planned, based on regular and accurate assessment of achievement so that every child is suitably challenged.
  • Planning is based on 'child initiated learning' that has proved very effective.
  • Children are highly motivated, enjoy learning, have good relationships with their peers and are self-motivated to learn.
  • The vibrant indoor and outdoor environment provides imaginative, varied and stimulating continuous provision to enhance child initiated learning, which promotes their imagination and curiosity.
  • Children investigate learning opportunities during choosing time and engage full, being always keen to 'have a go' with sensitive encouragement from adults to explore all areas.
  • Teachers respond to children's interests, amend planning to meet these, with assessments sharply focused to include all who are involved in each child's development.
  • Teachers monitor the progress of each child, set challenging targets to ensure they meet the Early Learning Goals in all areas of learning.
  • Children enjoy sharing their achievements, ask questions to further their knowledge and can talk enthusiastically about the next steps in their learning.
