Google Expeditions
KS2 children were given an incredible opportunity to experience Google Expeditions when they visited our school on Tuesday 29th November.
Expeditions is a new product from Google that allows teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips, immersing students in experiences that bring abstract concepts to life and giving students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom.
The experiences our classes chose were:
- The Solar System
- Borneo Rainforest (Animal Adaptations)
- The Great Wall of China and Mount Everest
- The Great Barrier Reef
Each student was given a cardboard viewer with a phone inside, which the class teacher controlled from a tablet. Once the destination had been selected the children were taken there automatically; experiencing incredible panoramas, 360 degree photo spheres and 3D images; annotated with details, points of interest, and questions that made them easy to integrate into their curriculum topics.
While nothing replaces hopping on the bus for a field trip, Expeditions provided an unparalleled opportunity that supplemented their learning.
