Last week KS1 visited All Saints Parish Church for the Christmas tree festival. This linked with Year One’s RE topic “Why do Christians celebrate Christmas”. We looked for symbols of Christmas around the church and looked at the stain glass windows which shows the Christmas story. Year Two compared the church with a Jewish temple, as part of their topic “Who is a Jew and what do they believe?” Children were able to compare different aspects of the building and the ways that different religions worship and pray.
The children loved looking at all the trees, which were all decorated and designed by different community groups. Our favourite was the “upside down tree” which Mrs Marshall had helped to decorate.
The Western Wall
The Year 2's also went on a virtual field trip to the Old City of Jerusalem and were able to explore, using Google Expeditions, the old city as well as visiting The Western Wall. They found out why it is one of the most sacred cities in the world and why The Western Wall is the most sacred site in Judaism.
